Councilwoman Tiffanie Fisher Teams Up with Flo On Wheels to Promote Bike Safety in Hoboken
National Bike Month promotion offers discounted side mirrors to encourage safer riding in Hoboken’s busy streets.

HOBOKEN, N.J. — In celebration of National Bike Month (May), Councilwoman Tiffanie Fisher is partnering with trusted local bike shop Flo On Wheels to promote safer riding in Hoboken. From now through May 31, riders can receive 20% off side mirrors by visiting the shop and mentioning code SAFEBIKE25.
The effort stems from Fisher’s own experience after a friend suggested she install a side mirror on her bike before her first TD Bank Five Boro Bike Tour.
“Adding a side mirror completely changed how I ride,” Fisher said. “It made biking in Hoboken and the surrounding urban environments feel safer. It’s a small upgrade that makes a big difference.”
Fisher, who has made safer streets and sidewalks a hallmark of her work on the Hoboken City Council and a pillar of her mayoral campaign, said the initiative is about equipping riders with practical tools to navigate safely and confidently — and about supporting the small businesses that are at the heart of Hoboken’s community.
“This initiative is about safety — helping people feel more confident and protected while biking in Hoboken,” Fisher said. “The fact that we can also support a great local business like Flo On Wheels makes it even better.”
Fisher and Florentino “Flo” Hernandez, owner of Flo On Wheels, have regularly talked about bike safety and agreed that in a dense city like Hoboken, helmets and side mirrors are essential safety equipment for urban cycling. While most people are familiar with helmets and bells, few riders think to add a mirror — even though it can dramatically improve visibility and confidence on the road. And although mirrors are generally recommended for adults, Fisher emphasized that it’s always up to parents to determine when their child is ready for a mirror and the added perspective it brings.
While formal studies on mirror safety are limited, cycling experts and enthusiasts overwhelmingly support their use. As Cycling Weekly notes:
“Bicycle mirrors, just like the mirrors of a car, offer another aid to improve awareness and visibility around you without having to take your eyes off the road ahead.”

Promotion Details:
Now through May 31, visit Flo On Wheels at 1222 Washington Street, bring your bike in for a proper fit, and mention SAFEBIKE25 at checkout to receive 20% off any side mirror or bell. Staff can also help with selecting a helmet or ensuring proper fit.
“Something as simple as a side mirror can completely change how confident you feel on a bike,” said Fisher. “While celebrating Bike Month, I want more people to experience that — like I did — and feel empowered to ride more often.”
