For those following, it has been a political whirlwind these past few weeks concerning democracy in New Jersey
....centered around defending the public’s access to government records and our ability (or lack thereof) to elect who we want to represent us. New Jersey's First Lady Tammy Murphy dropped from the race for U.S. Senate and a ruling is pending on a lawsuit filed by Senate candidate, Rep. Andy Kim, to challenge the state's anti - democratic ballot structure. I am going to cover these in more detail in my next newsletter because they are both so important to all of us. Regardless of our political views, we all want to live in a democracy founded on transparency and good government. I know it.
This morning, I want to talk to you about the upcoming primary elections on June 4th. The ballot will include candidates for President as well as Senate and Congress. There are two primaries – one each for Democrat and Republican.
I will be proudly supporting, working and voting to re-elect our Congressman Rob Menendez Jr. and to elect Congressman Andy Kim to the U.S. Senate.
I enthusiastically issued the public endorsement below earlier this week for both Rob and Andy. For those eager to engage in the Democratic primary, I invite you to stand with me, and the many others I have spoken to already who are already joining me, in supporting Rob and Andy to stay in Washington and represent us in the House and Senate. My endorsement for Rob extends far beyond mere opposition to Ravi. I promise. You know that I would only put my name behind a candidate who I can believe in to represent me, and to represent you. And getting behind both Rob and Andy was easy.
Hoboken Councilwoman Tiffanie Fisher Endorses Rob Menendez Jr. for Re-Election to Congress and Andy Kim for U.S. Senate
Fisher believes Hoboken Democratic Primary Voters Want to See Victory for Rob and Andy.
Hoboken, NJ. March 26, 2024: Hoboken City Councilwoman Tiffanie Fisher proudly endorses Congressman Rob Menendez for re-election and Congressman Andy Kim for U.S. Senate.
“Every primary voter I've talked with wants Rob Menendez and Andy Kim - dedicated public servants who will fight tirelessly for the people of Hoboken and New Jersey," says Fisher. "Their proven leadership as Congressmen and their commitment to delivering results make them the best choice to represent Hoboken in the House and the Senate."
Rep. Rob Menendez Jr. Re-Election
Tiffanie Fisher, 2022
“Endorsing Rob for re-election is an easy decision for me. Since our first meeting two years ago, I have been consistently impressed by his expertise and relentless advocacy on crucial issues like affordability, healthcare, reproductive freedom, and homelessness,” says Fisher. “Rob’s unwavering commitment to democratic values, serving constituents, and securing federal resources for our district is commendable. What sets Rob apart is his accessibility and willingness to engage in open dialogue, always seeking ways to help residents of Hoboken.”
Already, in his first term in office, Rob has held leadership roles and introduced and supported several significant bills and initiatives on critical issues including job training for veterans, the deduction of state and local taxes, funding for anti-terrorism programs, homelessness assistance and addressing the needs of working families. He has also secured billions of dollars for transformative transportation and infrastructure projects, environmental justice initiatives, policing services, and youth empowerment programs.
“Rob has been a strong voice for New Jersey and Americans in Washington,” continues Fisher. “His long list of accomplishments combined with his direct engagement with residents, intelligent decision-making, and advocacy for underserved communities to me highlight a representative who prioritizes action over rhetoric and distinguishes him as a leader dedicated to serving people.”
Rep. Andy Kim for US Senate
Tiffanie Fisher (2018)
I have supported Congressman Kim since he first ran for Congress in 2018 when he beat a two-term congressman in New Jersey’s 3rd District and I am proud to have this support continue as he runs for Senate to represent all of New Jersey,” says Councilwoman Fisher. “As our democracy comes under assault, Andy’s is a critical voice in America.”
Rep. Kim, a veteran and lifelong public servant, successfully won election in a district with a significant Republican base. In Congress, he has fought for universal healthcare, protecting our environment, defending reproductive rights for women, supporting veterans and military families, and ending corruption in government. And in New Jersey, he is leading the fight on ballot reform.
“Andy is the right candidate to capture the hearts of New Jersey and win in November. He forges genuine connections with constituents, ensuring they feel listened to and valued.” says Fisher. “I wholeheartedly support his campaign to be our next U.S. Senator.”
Councilwoman Fisher has publicly advocated against the County Line system for years. Despite the process, she prioritizes endorsing the best candidate for the job, reflecting her commitment to effective leadership, and advocating for electoral reforms.

In the coming weeks, I will share opportunities to meet Rob and support his campaign. Please reach out any time to let me know if you would be interested!
Please note that while this focuses on my endorsement of Democratic congressional and senate candidates, I want to emphasize that my commitment to advocating for our neighbors transcends party lines. I recognize that many of you reading this may not be participating in the Democratic primary, and perhaps lean towards voting in the Republican primary. I am will provide information on all candidates as soon as the ballot is finalized, because I firmly believe that every election, regardless of party affiliation, is an opportunity to shape our future by supporting candidates we believe in.
THE 900LB GORILLA IN THE ROOM
Despite the cloud of controversy surrounding Senator Bob Menendez, it's crucial to distinguish the record and character of his son, Rep. Rob Menendez Jr. who I am 100% proud to endorse. While acknowledging the complexities of his family's situation, I want to emphasize that my endorsement of Rob is a testament to his own merits as a dedicated public servant. Conversations with many of our neighbors reaffirm the widespread confidence in Rob's integrity and commitment to serving our community and that people want candidates with proven leadership and a focus on delivering tangible results. It's evident that Rob is his own man, distinct from his father, and the attempts made by Ravi to equate the two, which is a cornerstone of his campaign, fall short and are unsubstantiated.
HOW TO VOTE IN NEW JERSEY’S PRIMARIES
Stating the obvious, Democrats vote in the Democratic primary, and Republicans vote in the Republican primary. In New Jersey we have open primaries so if you are unaffiliated you can vote in either (you would declare with that party that day, but can undeclare a day later if you wanted). If you are a registered Democrat or Republican, and want to change your party to vote in the other primary, you have to do this by April 10th. As an FYI, of the 40ish thousand registered voters in Hoboken, 46% are Democrat, 36% are Unaffiliated, 16% are Republican, and the remaining 2% are other parties including Green and Libertarian. In the 2nd Ward, there are 3% less Democrats and 3% more Republicans than the city average.
FROM DEMOCRACY TO MENOPAUSE… HOW IS THAT FOR A SEGUE?
Sorry this is late, but I just found out about this. Today, at noon, in one hour, State Senator Angela McKnight, (who I am a fangirl of) is hosting a virtual conversation with Dr. Dineasha Potter-McQuilkin, doctor of Obstetrics and Gynocolgy at Hoboken’s hospital on this topic and I urge everyone to join! It will be livestreaming on both Facebook and Instagram.
Menopause / perimenopause is a topic that is important to all women. It should also be important to men as well to support the women in their lives who will probably experience things such as brain fog, weight gain, osteoporosis, and increased cancer risk, all relating to our change in hormones. I can tell you I thought I was losing my mind when it first started for me. So I hope you can grab your lunch, tune in and learn more.
As your City Council representative, I remain entirely indifferent to your party affiliation, or lack thereof. My sole focus is on being your unwavering advocate in Hoboken, addressing the issues that matter most to you. As neighbors, we share a common vision for a safe and thriving community where everyone feels at home. Even amidst challenging discussions or differing viewpoints, I am committed to fighting tirelessly for our community and preserving our democracy.
As always, please share this with everyone you know who may be interested and reach out any time on any issue important to you: 201-208-1764 or [email protected]. Click to subscribe to my newsletter.
