After 2 1/4 years, we are finally getting close to the finish line with the upgrades to 14th & Hudson.
Today, Hudson County's contractors are out doing the final work to complete the restoration of the sidewalks (including concrete and pavers). If you can, I would try to find an alternate route as the sidewalks may intermittantly be closed throughout the day as they do the work. I have asked the contractors to put up "sidewalk closed" signs, and will stop by to check in. And I just heard back from our City Engineer who is ensuring proper pedestrian safeguards are present.
It looks like one prior traffic light was orphaned, and left standing. So the contractors may still have to come back another day to do this final spot. I have reached out to the County engineer to see if there is some way to have the pole removed today so the work can be completed.
It turns out that the rain gardens are not the responsibility of the County, but are the responsibility of the City. I reached out to Hoboken's Parks and Public Works Director Aviles last Friday and she had a team come in and cut down the weeds right away.
Clearly more needs and will be done to beautify these raingardens, but at least we are headed in a good direction and no longer watching 3' grass and weeds grow.
