#32 UPTOWN & DOWNTOWN TRAFFIC... SMH...

Deja Vu all over again.

The traffic nightmare that occurred last week, relating to Hudson County's milling and repaving of Park Avenue, returns tomorrow and Monday.  Closures and work are expected to occur 10am - 5pm tomorrow, and 9am to 5pm on Monday.  If that isn't bad enough, Observer Highway at Henderson Street will also be closed tomorrow from 8am to 1pm clogging up our Southern gateway area as well at the same time.  So travel early or late to avoid the headaches.

With this in mind...
  • Use alternative routes including Willow Ave and the Viaduct, to exit the city on the north end as smoothly as possible.
  • Use alternative routes including Monroe St. and further west, to exit the city on the south end as smoothly as possible.
  • Hoboken and County Public Safety teams will be out assisting with traffic.  Make sure you thank them as you pass by and offer some water, it will be a hot day.
  • If you have flexibility, plan to travel earlier or later in the day.
  • Be patient.  Bring snacks. Avoid using your horn (unless emergency).  Load up your phone with all the podcasts you have been dying to catch up on.  Have lots of videos available for your kids.
  • Fill up your gas tank tonight.  Avoid getting caught running out of gas, stuck in traffic, on a hot day.

The fact that we are closing main arterial roads in and out of Hoboken during peak travel times is unacceptable. We could have planned this better for Hoboken residents. This work could have been done overnight or midweek. I have spoken to County representatives and other stakeholders involved in approving the Park Ave project scope and learned that while Weehawken's Mayor and administration put their residents' interests first by prohibiting disruptive overnight work, Hoboken's administration did not provide the same input and service to our residents, resulting in a significant quality of life issue for our community. Hoboken residents deserve better.
