Is this really happening?
If you haven’t been following, we are expecting a damaging blizzard, with high wind gusts, beginning later this morning and ending tomorrow afternoon that will drop an expected 12-18” of heavy snow in our area. Don’t let the “.6” today on the left in the chart below fool you - I am not sure how this is calculated, but the same chart showed this at 6-7” just last night.

Two bits of good news:
This is actually good packing snow for snowmen. ☃️
And more importantly, unlike after the last storm where it remained cold for multiple weeks with little melting until a few days ago, the weather forecast has warming this week - which is more typical, with temperatures into the high 30’s and 40’s with rain which will help clear the snow much quicker. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
What to know this morning:
- The state and the City of Hoboken have declared state of emergencies beginning at noon today. For Hoboken this immediately means that no parking is allowed on the following Emergency Snow Routes.
- Washington Street: Both Sides
- 3rd Street: North Side; Jackson to River
- 4th Street: South Side; River to Jackson
- 5th Street: South Side; Clinton to River
- 9th Street: North Side; Jackson to Castle Point Terrace
- 13th Street: North Side; Washington to Madison
- 13th Street: South Side; Washington Street to Hudson
- Willow: West Side; Observer Highway to 11th (County Road)
- Observer Highway: Both Sides; Henderson to Hudson (County Road)
Please also note that temporary no parking signs are posted on the east side of Grand Street between Third and Eighth Streets (in red on map below), and vehicles must be moved from this area as well.

- If you have a car, move it off these Snow Emergency Routes. Vehicles left on these streets may be ticketed and towed.
- The City is offering $5 / 24hr discounted parking in municipal garages B, D and Midtown, although space is already limited.
- Street sweeping is suspended Monday and Tuesday.
- For expected school closures tomorrow, please check directly with your provider.
- Citi Bike has suspended services through Tuesday morning, 6am.
- Transit & City services - as of this writing, no service disruptions have been reported. But check directly with NJ Transit, NY Waterway and PATHNYNJ throughout the storm to confirm.
- Sidewalk snow removal is required 6 hours after the storm ends. As of this writing it looks to be around noon / 1pm tomorrow that that clock will start.
- The city started a volunteer program to assist certain neighbors with sidewalk clearing. Those over 60 and/or with disabilities can sign up for help and those who want to volunteer can register here:
Please note this is NOT a guarantee of assistance. My guess is the ask will be greater than the volunteers. But if you are feeling generous and want to add your name to assist, your neighbors will greatly appreciate it!

- Can residents be told earlier the specific time that a storm ends and the 6-hour clock begins. I have asked the mayor to send an alert out after the storm ends to begin the 6 hour clock and identify exactly when ticketing will begin.
- Can snow removal begin earlier. I have asked the city if they will at least start putting TNP signs up to facilitate beginning snow removal earlier. Currently, the thought is the temperatures are going to be warm immediately which should help with melting, immediately.

REMINDER: For emergencies, call 911 or 201-420-2100 for the local dispatch. And email [email protected] and report any areas that have not been adequately cleared.

Mayor Jabbour has announced that she, like Governor Hochul in New York did, will not be enforcing the ABC law this morning that restricts bars from opening until 10 am, to allow people to go out and watch the USA Hockey final which starts at 8:10 am. Check with your favorite bar to see if they are open - I understand at least Pig & Parrot, Finnegans, Ale House, and Black Bear are a few that will open. I am about to head towards Ale House now myself (with Brownie). #GoTeamUsa!!! #DrinkLocal
On a side note, a huge shout out to Chris Lillis for crushing it yesterday and winning the gold in the freestyle. An incredible ski jumping family who happens to helm from the town I grew up in (I went to HS with his dad). Proud of all of our athletes competing!
